My Amazon books are supposed to come in today. I am excited to receive insight into managing my debt from "the pros". OK, so I was never big on reading but I'm not reading these for fun - I'm reading them because I need debt help.
I got distracted today by the TV. TV is such a waste of time, yet so mesmerizing. Once I start watching a show I can't look away. I will definitely need to keep my TV watching time in check once my books come in, otherwise I'll never get done with them! Besides, I don't think watching TV ever helped anyone get out of debt.

Ideas on saving some money...
So I was poking around the web for random debt help resources and found this site: Debting.org. It has quite a few useful articles (if you have debt problems like me, I recommend doing some reading on there).
I found one of the articles to be particularly insightful. It's a general debt help article, kind of common sense but something I never really thought about before. I only have one car and do not attend a private school (or any school for that matter), and moving is not really an option at the moment. However, I do eat fast food every few days which is more expensive than "real food". Man, whatever happened to fast food being cheap. $0.29 cheeseburgers at McDonald's anyone? I also have a cell phone but don't think I could live without that (OK, technically not true but it makes life so much easier). Cable isn't a huge expense, but I suppose it adds up. I think I'll cancel it starting next month since I can live without it. Maybe I'll sign up for Netflix or Hulu or something, those are like $10 a month. Lot cheaper than cable.

Random
It's early in the morning. You're never too far in debt to afford Captain Crunch cereal. Man, I need help. When my next paycheck comes in this weekend, my goal is to put $150 towards my debt. I just decided that. My goal every time I get a paycheck is to put $150 of it towards my debt.
Dammit, I'm going to need to get a 2nd job or something.

Hatching a plan...
Being so far in debt, yes I can admit that I need help. Help comes in many forms, and after doing some online research I have decided to follow this debt help strategy.
The argument behind using this method is that you can lose motivation when trying to pay off large amounts of debt. I won't argue with that and my debt definitely qualifies as large. This is going to be a marathon.
Most of my debt is credit card debt. I have several credit cards, but most of the debt is on two of them. I will work on paying off all of the smaller debts first, which should take a relatively short amount of time.
The man behind the "debt snowball" strategy, as it has come to be known, is often credited to this man. He seems like a smart guy with quite a few publications. I will trust his idea because I am clearly no financial expert (and he is).
Anyway, it's getting late.. off to bed.

The beginning of my quest to eliminate debt
The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Or in my case, the journey of erasing $22,000 in credit card debt. Don't ask how I got this deep into debt. I've spent a lot on unnecessary things and made some poor financial decisions, but have resolved to put an end to my foolish ways.
A quick introduction: I am a single 28 year old guy in the construction management business. I guess you could say I'm pretty average (apart from my financial stupidity?).
Anyway, back to my debt. To help me in my goals, I did a quick online search for some resources. I found these useful:
It's time for me to head off to work now... going to be a long day but I'm feeling good about starting this journal.

Anyway, back to my debt. To help me in my goals, I did a quick online search for some resources. I found these useful:
- For Debt Help, an informational site with interesting articles about getting debt free
- The Total Money Makeover: A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness, a book from Amazon by Dave Ramsey
- Negotiate and Settle Your Debts: A Debt Settlement Strategy, a book from Amazon about debt settlement
It's time for me to head off to work now... going to be a long day but I'm feeling good about starting this journal.
